Which IP address do i use to view my VNC server?

Question:
okay so i used this: http://lifehacker.com/software/feature/g... tutorial from lifehacker, and i made the server and everything....and i used a viewer (TIGHT VNC) and tested it at home on another computer, attached through the same router (but not wirelessly, like the computer that has the server on it)

i used the IP address that my computer told me.192.168.1.4, but i am guessing that this is just a local IP address. BUT that is the one that worked

so i went to whatismyip.com and got my real address, and tried using it, but it didnt work when i tested it.

why would only the local one work?
your firewall is blocking external traffic , which is your external ip address .

you need to forward the vnc port from your external ip to your internal ip .

check to see what PORTS your version of VNC is using than logon to your broadband router and port forward those ports to the internal ip address that works . be warned this is not very secure and leaves a port open on your firewall .

check http://portforward.com/routers.htm...
