How do I pursue a career in project management?
Question:
Answer:
Try these for starters (do professional membership & qualification/accreditation – can be costly, some employers will pay cost). I also believe it is pretty good to get a PRINCE 2 (I think) qualification. Both below do a magazine with inside info of relevance.
Association of Project Management http://www.apm.org.uk/
Project Management Institute http://www.pmi.org/info/default.asp...
Also it is possible to do NVQ5 in Project Management (various prices & providers), and costs can be subsidised for some groups e.g. volunteers/staff of SME’s and charity/voluntary sector (or volunteers), unemployed, women, BME, returners/disabled, those in areas of high deprivation etc. These are often more flexible.
There are a range of Professional and specialist professional organisations that may be of use to you e.g. Event Management, construction, research organisations etc, dependent upon what field you wish to project manage in, as well as more generalistic for managers.
Good luck
you need to get a foot in the door, it is not likely you will go straight in as a project manager as you will not have the industry experience so few places will trust you with teh financial side of the work.
try starting as a project chaser working for a project manager on a large project and let your intentions be known at teh appropriate time.
get a degree
