How can i write an anonymous ltr to an employer that an employee is doing drugs w/o being found out it was me?
Question:
Please be advised an employee, ______ is under the influence of marijuana and has used this drug while on his break. There is concern that in the future, while driving a forklift, he may pose unnecessary risk and endanger employees nearby. For safety reasons please keep this matter confidential, and notify management of the issue. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Anonymous employee
I like the letter, sounds good and confidential to me. So this guy and you do not work together?? or do u? if u dont work together im sure he wouldnt find out it was you. If I were you i would mail it with no return address so that it cant be traced back to you. This way he doesnt see u at his job and he doesnt knwo it was you.
I don't know I am not a snitch.
Maybe have someone else call HR when you are working.
That is a good letter.
Yes - type it up and send to HR (do they have a confidential box?)
Or, ask if there is an Employee Referral Program (ERP) that is handled by another company? (some larger companies do this) Everything then would be confidential - probably the internal HR wouldn't even know it was you!
Please do something - you & others may be at risk (even this idiot.)
Last idea - if you aren't sure about HR - drop the letter off with your OSHA/ Safety person ...
That is easy enough. Just mail the letter to the company and use their address as both the main mailing address and the return address. Also mail direct from a Post Office Branch. Unless the company is really paranoid, they should not care about the source of a anonymous tip and should randomly drug test the individual. Most companies that have dangerous positions like the one you describe usually have a random drug testing policy.
The bottom line is that if you think he is too impaired to safely perform his job then you should send the letter, whether or not he will suspect you.
I can't imagine you are his "only enemy." People who have enemies usually have more than one. Unfortunately, if there is a bad relationship between you then he may suspect you, no matter how anonymous the letter.
The bottom line is to do the right thing and call the police if you feel unsafe. Make sure you are doing this for the right reason. If you are reporting him for less than honorable reasons then he may be justified in being angry with you for jeapardizing his employment.
Use a phone booth
call the local police authority
Even though it is on private property
dept of health and safety and the employment dept
has authority for employee safety.
Your letter is fine
But MY experience is your druggie is probably a family member of management staff..
use a type writer, or cut letters/words out of a newspaper and glue them on your forehead, ya big sissy.
You don't have to worry about being caught. HR's role and responsibility is to protect their employees which includes the staff and that means you too. They have no need to tell him how they know and it would never come up (unless you have a horrible HR dept). You can actually get in trouble if he does something that endangers someone and it is found out that you knew and didn't do anything about it.
You'll be fine.
