Do most Project Managers use Microsoft Project?
Question:
Is Microsoft Project the best software to use? What are the other good options? I don't have Office at the moment, but before I shell out for the software, I'd like to know from other PMs' experiences. Thanks.
Answer:
There are many many project management software packages. I'll include a link to some below. Some are even free. Which one is best for you depends on what you need to do.
Microsoft Project is the most widely used project management package - not that it's necessarily the best, but for the price and Microsoft name, it's what most people choose.
MSP is not included as part any any MS Office package, but it does export ot both Visio and Excel.
You mention Mindjet. That is very different to MSP. MSP is a scheduling package. Mindjet is more of a structured graphics package - to be used for "mind maps".
Microsoft Project has been used in every IT department I have worked in and all of the courses I took in college used it. I do not have any experience with other project management utilities. I am not sure if you are aware or not but MS project does not come with MS office. It is a separate app.
