NHS Harassment? UK?
Question:
I have nothing against women who chose to book themselves in for a smear test. I however am practicing my right not to have a smear test?
Our society has become so addicted to diagnosis and has become thoroughly dedicated to what I can only describe as 'over-diagnosis'. Do they think we are all hypochondriacs? That we all ride the waves of the latest health scare - and live in a permanent state of panic over what disease we might be contracting?
I am NOT one of those people, and I am probably more healthy than my GP. I feel the practices set up, such as harassing patients to have scans / smears / tests are a case of doctors and clinics milking the social health care for all it's worth.
I feel harassed - your thoughts?
Answer:
While smear tests surely catch some cases of cervical cancer, I don't see why you have to do anything you don't want to do. After all the NHS is there for you, not the other way around.
Good luck with it.
They're just trying to ensure you're healthy. If you don't want a test, don't have one. But is that the issue here, or are you against it for some other reason you're not telling?
