Construction project management?
Question:
Answer:
You have already started on the right path by working construction in the summers. Make sure to express your interest in learning more to the builder. He may take you under his wing and give you more opportunities to get ahead while you are still in school.
While you are still in high school, be sure to take as much math, business, and science courses that you can. If you are working already you probably have figured out that knowing Spanish is important as well. If your school district has a Technical Center with a building trades course, that is usually a good way to pick up additional skills. However, if you are sure that you want to go to college, don't sacrifice the math, science, and math courses for the Tech Center.
As far as colleges, there are both two-year and four-year programs in most states. The better programs are accredited by the American Council of Construction Education. I have included the link below.
Lastly, call a few other construction companies that you have not worked for. Many owners, project managers, estimators, and superintendents will be graduates of the colleges you will be researching. They can give you better information on what you will need to do to succeed in each program.
Good luck!
