Is there anything I can do?

Question:
Something has been bothering me. I don't know whether to let it go and pursue it.

Awhile back I was working as a temp in patient financial services for a major hospital and one of my coworkers were extremely rude to me. Actually making for a "hostile workplace". After my boss (who happens to be her Mom) mysteriously ended my employment a week later, I've been left with some confusing feelings.

Should I just leave it alone (this happened like 3 months ago).

Or some friends of mine said I should report her. She doesn't "actually" work there. As I said I worked in patient financial services, she actually works here http://www.argenthfs.com but her cube was right next to mine, and physically (obviously) she was there. I cannot report her to the hospital, because she doesn't work there. It's a sticky situation. I checked the website, and there was nothing to say whether the company upholds human resources/conflict type issues. Just looking for some insight.

Answer:
Think about the outcomes and decide - is it going to help you in any way? Will you get your job back? Or is it only going to satisfy your bruised mind? Also, is it going to result in more head-ache for you?
So, now you should be able to think clearly. If you get something positive for you out of it, report her. Otherwise, let it go. Its better not to waste time on something that doesn't pay you in return.
If I were you, I would just drop it and move on.
I would let it go. Such things have a way of following you. I don't see that you have anything to gain except satisfaction and that is unlikely.
If you feel like it isn't right and it bothers you then I think that you should say something. If theres something you can do than do it. Report her personally I dont think its right I would if I were you.
i would probably report her. i mean, you dont work there anymore...so whats the harm in trying? what if this is happening to others, but they dont want to speak up because they do not want to lose their jobs, as you did?
Oh wow that sucks. You should call your boss and ask her why she ended your employment.
Not a lot you can do.

1) You were a temp so they could cease your employment at any time

2) The person giving you the hassle didn't work for the people employing you, so you have a problem with who to complain about ... the company employing the person you had problems with, who can claim it wasn't them who terminated your employment, or the hospital, who can claim that you problem was with someone elses employee.
Unfortunatly unless she fired you for your sex, sexual orientation, race, or a disability, you can't really do anything. those are the only things that amount to wrongfull termination. Aside from the reasons mentioned before, an employer can legally fire anyone for any reason they want, and theres not much you can do about it. apply for unemployment is about it. sucks, but you should just move on.
All companies have some form of risk management and the human relations dept would know where to direct you to file a complaint...I would definitely at least report it so that she is held accountable for her actions...in a working profession you are supposed to maintain professionalism and this may be something that needs to be reported so that her future actions can be monitored so they won't affect other people that she comes in contact with
Although, legally, a temp has the same federal protection to a hostile-free workplace as does a permanent employee, what you discribe does not come close to subtantiating a cause of action under the Federal Guidelines.

People are rude. It's a fact of life.

The ONLY way you could have sustantiated a suit against the company is if she had made such comments based, as one reply told you already, on sex, race, national origin or other protected status.

And then the process that MUST be followed for such a suit to proceed would be to file a complaint with the employer first. If not action is then taken, a complaint to the state EEOC which will evaluate the situation and issue a "Right to Sue" letter or not.

You cannot bring such a lawsuit without this letter and you must file it within 90 days in most states.

Regardless of the above, you no longer work there and although it MAY be possible to prove that your termination was a result of the tension between the two of you, that still does not rise to the level of hostile workplace which you would need to proceed.
Push it for all it's worth, because obviously she has let you go anyway, so you have everything to gain and nothing to lose and that is always the best position to be in regardless! They never think in these terms when they terminate your employment,if they do they just hope you won't realize what this means to all parties involved!
