Examples of negative testing?

Question: What sort of negative or critical tests can I perform to test a software that allows you to assign a variable as a constant?

One I can think of, off the top of my head, is to initialize the variable as a constant & assign it it's value. Later on, try reassigning the same variable to a different value & see what happens.

Any other such negative tests possible in this case?
