Office Politics. I am currently working my way to get to the top of the organisation's Management Team.?

I plan on securing a seat in the Board of directors. there are a number of workmates not very happy about this. The organisation is Non Governmental Organisation focusing on Humanitarian Projects. I am looking for pointers on how to handle power struggle and how to interact with our suppliers. What is the best way to handle this kind of situation

Work hard and suck a lot of butt

The people who win the power struggle are the ones who can mobilize the others most effectively. In your line of work, it seems that the most obviously and extrovertedly organized will win. Making yourself the lynch pin that the suppliers WANT to deal with (and ask for) will bring you a lot of clout. Work hard to develop a relationship with the suppliers so that they will ASK for and ONLY DEAL with you.

The person that is best at getting people to work together toward a common goal will win in this situation. Prove to others that you can add value to the team by facilitating projects that add real value to both the organization and the team members. If the team sees you as a value rather than competition to them, they are more likely to support your efforts. It's all people skills!
