I joined this new company as a Senior Software Engineer. But so far no good work has been assigned to me, while I was promised exciting development work during my interviews. I have only been given testing kind of work so far which doesn't suite my job profile. I feel redundant in the team and looks like I have been hired without any plan. Everything in the team seems to be happening unprofessionally and by favouritism. I feel ignored and unwanted. So I deliberately skip team meetings. I've already been thinkin to either switch my team or the company itself.
today they are going out for lunch for they have completed a "sprint" (a kind of unit release) of which I wasn't even part of. I feel like not going with them. What do you say?

Go to the lunch and be as amicable as you can. Ok so its not the perfect job and you are a bit unhappy. Fine look around for a new team or even a new job if you think you can find a better one (you may find the new job not to be any better but won't know unless you try) but in the mean time make the most of the job you have too. Go to all meetings, do the best on the work you were assigned but at the same time actively seek out new work, be a part of the team even if you don't feel like one. I mean the path you are headed down will quickly lead to you checking out from your coworkers completely and eventually mean you quitting or being fired - that may be ok, but you want to move on under your terms and in the mean time get as much as possible from the job while you are there.
