Should I specialize my degree in Human resources management or go for the broader administrative management?

This is a very good question and depends on your situation and how far into your degree you are right now. If you are just beginning a degree program, it's best to take an HR course or two that would count as an elective toward any degree. That way you can see if this is what you really want to do.
At the same time, it would be good to take a part time or internist position in HR and see if this is something that you would like to pursue and you will also find out how the future looks for you in the hiring/training of workers.
Personally, I have 17 years in HR plus 8 years of general business experience. My undergrad degree is in Business Administration with a specialization Management (this is also something you can look at-maybe getting a Bus. Admin. degree and specializing in HR depending on schools) and I will be receiving my EMBA in August. I also hold a teacher certification in technology and business. My broad education and experience in business has actually helped me to understand more roles in business.
Also, one can always supplement a broader degree with HR certifications or whatever specialty you decide on. Whatever you choose, usually doing what you are best at and what you enjoy will lead to success. Best wishes...
its very hard to get that first job in hr. so if i were you i would specialise in something broader in management. it would give you more options if you have a tough time finding that first job in hr. try to do summer internships or get a part time job in entry level hr now. the future is always good for hr recruiters and trainers. but its a tough field to get your start in.
I can tell you about the HR managment position where I work: she is the lowest paid manager in the place (out of 11 managers). She even earns less than the 3 supervisors that are union member and the engineers at my agency.
