How many details can human resources tell a potential new employer ?

Question:
i recently lost my job, what information besides verifying dates of employment can they(human resources dept.) tell/give ??

Answer:
I think it depends on what state you are in. Remember, the person asking about you isn't about to tell you what they heard from a previous employer, so don't burn your bridges!
That you were employed and from when to when..
A lot depends on where you live eg: state or province. They can certainly tell potential employers that. Many companies have policies relating to what kinds of information can be given out. Some companies will confirm if asked a direct question and others will say their company policy states that they can only confirm you worked there. Many prospective employers ask whether the company you worked for would rehire you if given the opportunity. If the policy states that no information is to be given out some potential employers will perceive that as they wouldn't hire you again making a negative impression on them.

If possible check with the human resource department to find out what the policy is regarding this issue.
