I am starting classes towards becoming an IT professional, any advice?

Question:
I just finished my first quarter at my local Tech College in networking. I hope to start a career in the IT field. At present I have a nebulous plan to become a network administrator or system analyst or something like that. I think i want to go CISCO but I am not sure if it is the better choice or if Microsoft would be wiser.

I am in an Associates degree program, well actually pursuing two associates(the other in Management). I would appreciate any advice or pointers I can get. Specifically about career paths(networking, security, project management, etc.), and vendor disciplines (Microsoft, Cisco, vendor neutral). Also about OS's. I know nothing at all about linux as yet.

Answer:
Just let me encourage you. You are doing all the right things. The best of luck to you. I know you will do well.
study
If you have a choice between software and hardware, go software, there is much more money in software.
