Is it appropriate to spell out the PMP, Project management Professional) in your signature?
Question:
Answer:
The best rule of thumb is not to spell these things out. Understate the qualification and people will probably still get what you have. Overstating it can seem a bit OTT :-)
I would say that PMP is enough. Most of the people that you will be talking to will know that that is anyway. Spelling it out is not cool.
Cheers!
Yes, because to the uninitiated it might suggest "pimp" or "pump".
Since the point of the resume is to get information into the hands of the person hiring, I suggest that it be spelled out when the title first appears on the page, followed by the initials, in parentheses.
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Later, in the resume, the initials can be used with confidence that the person reviewing the resume will know the reference.
Personally, would consider it pretentioius for someone to toss around acronyms and buzzwords with the expectation that "everyone" should know what is meant. This would be especially true of a job applicant. Once inside, on the job, the PMP would have a better feel for who understands the acronym, and who might not.
There is a category of professionals that can, and should use the abbreviation for the degree earned. This means using it as an attachement to one's name. This might include doctors, (PhD, MD, DDS, etc.) attornies, (LLD) clerics (DD) and a few (very few) others.
Hi!
The best way to write your signature is to put a comma and PMP after your name...as in
John Smith, PMP
Hope that helps!
