Ipod mini error icons at boot changed after smacking ipod on the ground..?

Question:
My ipod mini had been dropped once from a very short distance and has ever since booted up with the "sad ipod face" and the hard drive makes that clicking sound. I tried taking the ipod apart down to the hard drive, and have reassembled it...same sad ipod at start-up. I've tried smackin it on a hard surface..same thing..so i got so frustrated i took the hard drive out, and i smacked it about 3 or 4 times on my table..then i put the whole ipod back together...and bam, it now boots with the "folder with a !" and i am now able to enter diagnostic mode. The only test that had failed was..yes..the hard drive..but the folder icon at start-up means a software issue..then why is my hard drive failing? is this a simple glitch, or do i have to get a new hard drive? oh yea, the hard drive no longer makes that clicking sound..in fact, it makes no sound at all..lol

Answer:
i have a friend who had a similiar situation which was covered by the extended warranty. he was told that his iPod mini wasn't fixable, once the harddrive is damage, it's gone. so they replaced a new one for him.

damaging a harddrive is easier than getting a new one. , it sounds like yours is damaged. if yours is still under the warranty, go back to apple, if not, there's really nothing you can do.

good luck!
