Evaluated by Human Resource Department?

Question:
Hi, I just had my 6th month at work as an System Administrator. My immediate officer evaluated me for my regularization at the company. I'm worried about the result coz I noticed that the management particularly the Human Resource Department doesn't have any clues on handling I.T. personnel. As an Administrator, my work schedule is flexible and on-call rain or shine, round the clock. I feel that what they only know about I.T. personnel is simply a computer technician BUT I.T. administration is not just bolts and screws... it's more on logistics, management... now I need to make an Employee's Comment to my evaluation paper. Hope you could give me anything that I can use for my reply. thank you

Answer:
Was the evaluation good, bad, or indifferent? What size company do you work for? HR should have virtually nothing to say on an performance evaluation -- all of it should come from your boss.

When you say you noticed "the management, particular the HR Dept" doesn't have any clues on handling IT personnel -- well, that worries me. If your believe your manager doesn't have a clue, then you're in the wrong job.

As a former VP/CIO for several companies, I can tell you that management *does* have a clue, but I will acknowledge that HR sometimes does NOT -- I still don't see what they're doing involved in your review.
