20% of hard drive is bad (unreadable due to malfunction)?
Question:
How do i know 20% is bad? I checked it with a piece of software that tests sectors. From 1% to 35% of the hard drive (testing from beginning to end), it checked out ok. Then, from 35% to about 55%, it kept on giving errors, which took forever to scan, and then from 55% on to the end of the hard drive, it scanned fine.
any help would be appreciated!
Answer:
Look up scan disk in your windows os and if you dont know what is scan disk look up how to use scan disk and get back to me if you need more help on how move files out the bad section of your hard drive.
There should be a program on your computer to redo your hard drive. It will cleanup your hard drive, and give you good sectors.
Your HDD is failing. When you run scandisk (you might have to do it with the DOS version) it should mark the bad sectors from being used again...but get another HDD as soon as possible, then go to their website and they should have some software (like DiskManager) that will copy everything onto your new drive. Better yet, put a fresh copy of WIN on the new drive and reinstall your apps and copy your files over to it ASAP.
I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/ hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful
