My Netgear router is working in other networks but not mine, help!?
Question:
A lot of things can cause a router to lose its configuration. Often, it can self-recover, but sometimes not. That's why there is typically a RESET function.
But, after RESET, you must make sure ALL the original setting are re-established. Sounds like you have tried, but here are some things you may have overlooked.
Your router may be defaulting to a connection type the is not DSL. That would allow it to function at work, but not at home. Check your WAN configuration. Make sure it is set for DSL connection (PPOE) and that you have your login ID and PW properly included.
When you connected your PC directly to your DSL modem, it changed the address that the Modem is trying to communicate with.
Leave the wireless router plugged in and turned on.
Unplug the power cord of the DSL modem.
Wait 30-45 seconds.
Plug the DSL modem back in.
If you use DSL for service, you have to go into the setup of the router and program it for PPPOE and type in the login name and password your internet provider gave you. It should be the same one you used to get your computer on line with. Once you have it programmed and saved. Logout of the router and unplug the power to both the modem and router. Turn the modem back on in about 20 seconds and wait about a full minute until you see the lights come back on and stay solid on the power and dsl. Then plug the power back on to your router and wait about 5 minutes to have it register the MAC address of the router with the modem and your DSL provider. If this doesn't get you on line, type in the address of your router in IE or Firefox or whatever browser you use and go to the status page and make sure it says connected. If it doesn't then there should be a connect button that you can click and see if that does it. Good Luck.
