Try Lincoln Electric Case Study by Harvard Business Review.

This is a world famous Graduate case study which examines LE in depth...Every MBA knows it by heart.

Handling employee disputes and conflicts has large range of types and possibilities.
Advancements and hiring new management apposed to advancing from within.
I got my Master's degree in HR 3 years ago, so the papers, etc are still pretty fresh in my mind. A favorite topic of mine was always Performance Appraisals. I've always had a problem with the whole process, so I found the research interesting. There's tons of info out there on that. You could also try something on labor unions or ex-cons in the workplace.

Another timely topic could be USERRA. This law basically deals with activated military reservists' rights to be made whole while they are away serving. I'll bet you can find tons of stuff about that.
The market is currently changing in terms of hiring priorities because it is shifting from a job driven market to a candidate driven market which means companies are having to come up with more inventive ways to attract new employees and keep the employees they alreday have. A great topic for a paper would be the unique benefit plans that employers use to retain and attract employees
