For those who work in Human resources-describe a typical day?

Question:
I have a degree in human resources management and I'm trying to get a job in the field. Currently I work for the governement. I'm interested to know what the primary functions you perform are and whether or not you plan to pursue higher level positions like HR manager or Director. Thanks!

Answer:
I was an HR Manager for a small company so there was only me and 150 employees. I generally tried to adhere to some sort of schedule. HaHa. As I got out of my car, a manager was waiting for me because he suspected one of his employees of theft. So much for my plan, I was going to spend the majority of my day investigating the allegation.

There are many functions in HR. In large companies, there will be recruiters, benefit specialists, compensation specialists, and so on.

Visit the Society for Human Resources web site to find out what we do all day. Ultimately, you should join the society because of the wealth of information available to members. Regardless of what your goals are, consider preparing for the HR Certification even if you opt out of the test (very difficult test). The certification course will give you a great prospective about all fields of HR. I did not feel that my college studies were adequate and the certification course is. I even suggested that my college consider including the material from the certification in the curriculum.
