Hired for 2 jobs, start date overlack. Is it possible to delay the start date?

Question:
One job is short lasts until mid September. I have already started working there, and I have signed a contract for it.

The other is permanent but starts in the beginning of August. I called and asked if they could delay start date, Human Resources said they are not sure. I'm not sure what to expect.

These jobs are 6 hours apart from each other.
Ouch, sounds like you're in a pretty touch situation. If the new job isn't flexible, I would probably ask your current job if you can leave a little earlier. Otherwise, you might have to find another job if you're contracted, and the distance between the two jobs is too great to work both for a while...

Good luck...
I have found usually permanent employment will delay the start date. You might what to ask about orientation...some facilities have orientation only once a month, if you miss is, you will have to wait until there next orientation. Also, try speaking with your future nurse manager or DON...they know what is going on and they most likely will not tell you 'I'm not sure', they will tell you for sure. I would not cancel your current contract, if at all possible...if you do, be sure to ready your contract thoroughly and make sure what costs you will be responsible for breaking contract (ie, housing, travel, and you will probably loose any completion bonus that was being offered). Hope this helps. -K- www.travel-nurse.com
