Who does a Hospital Chief of Staff have authority over?

Question:
Does the CoS have the authority over the Administrative offices? i.e., Could the CoS tell the head of Human Resources to hire someone as a file clerk?

Answer:
The CEO's do have authority ove the Administration offices as well as all other offices. They do not have the say in the hiring of someone unless it is a physician or another administrator. The Human Resources Dept. has an influence in the hiring and firing of an individual. The CEO's primary responsibility is to make sure the facility operates within every aspect of the law and within the boundaries of a budget presented to them. Hope this helps.
Usually "The Chief of Staff" of a hospital is over all medical doctors that practice there, and a well qualified physician himself. A nurse director or administrator is the chief of the nursing staff, and usually holds an advanced degrees in nursing. SW RNP
