Why can't I do Management?
Question:
Problem is. I really can't be bothered to keep hastling peple all day. I would much rarther do something myself rarther than ask somebody else to do it, as that way I know it will get done right!
Anyone got any tips on how to manage stuff for people missing the Bossy Gene?
Answer:
Management is exactly that as you know. Problem is thats the job description and people look on you as the main man and wait for instructions. A supervisor would do the same so that wont do.
Have you thought about coming out of management all together and starting your own business? That way you do it when and how you choose and give others the responsilbilty of worrying about their own jobs??
You just said--"I would much rarther do something myself rarther than ask somebody else to do it, " and now you are asking us?hehehaha
use the intellence gene if you have it that is.
I start things off for someone then leave them to complete it. Or just keep a hand in on a particular job. This way I feel like I have had input on a job and can take some ownership of it.
Maybe you need to look at getting your team trained so they are more competent, this should give you more confidence in them and allow you to leave them to it.
Finally why don't you get your staff onto a team building day? Sounds corny and I was scepticle but they really help you to see others strengths and you can use others in the team who are comfortable with bossing people around to take a bit of that on. It would ease your work load also.
If you are missing the "Bossy Gene", congrats! You're still a human being.
I for one, admire those that admit managing sucks.
Some people have a "need" to manage and get off on hassling people all day. It's a shame really that we create forums for these people to thrive. Suckholes and Assholes.
Good leaders earn respect. Bad ones demand it. People/workers will go to hell and back for a leader that has earned their respect. Poor leaders go down with the ship.
Perhaps take a course on acquiring some new management skills. Chances are you will like your job more.
