Aol and help cancelling?
Question:
i have sighned with aol gold for unlimited useage, and they have now changed their terms and conditions and have taken away the unlimited part, so my useage is now capped, can i get out of this contract as they have changed the T&Cs i wanted the unlimited as im a software tester and can download between 6 and 9 gig for each piece of software i test, obviously this will play hell with the capping limits. if theres a way i can cancel because of this can anyone let me know
Thankyou
Answer:
If you signed up for a contract with unlimited usage they cannot change it part way through.
AOL and any other company trading in the UK has to abide by UK law, and if they arent providing the service they contracted to you can either, cancel and go with a decent provider (because AOL are one of the worst), or you can insist they honour their agreement. If they wont then its a matter for the small claims court.
Either way, phone trading standards and get a full copy of the applicable law, just so you have all the fact before phoning them
Aol are really annoying to cancel. You need to call them and say you want to cancel. They will offer your ridiculous offers to get you to stay with them, my mom was offered 69 cents every month for a year when she wanted to cancel because we were changing to knology high speed. If they offer you stuff, just tell them you want to cancel and that is the bottom line and if they still try to off you things, keep saying no.
If you signed up before they changed this contract you may be able to cancel. But there may be a clause in the original agreement giving then the right to change contract without consent. I would argue it with their customer support staff.
If they argue back threaten to go to one of the Internets regulatory bodies and they should give in quite quickly.
"Your continued subscription to AOL and use of AOL's services will effectively show your acceptance of them." - This give you the right to cancel your contract if you do not do this by the date the chages become effective you loose your right to cancel as you accept the contract.
Just be persistant and never go back to those C^%K S#^KERS at AOL. They slammed me once years ago and then took 3 monthes to close my account. Never dealt with them again.
This was taken from the CNET podcast. When you call them, tell them, before they start telling you anything, that you are recording the phone call. (You probably won't really have to) and that should make things go a little smoother. I don't know, never been a memeber of AOL, but worth a try.
Good Luck
