What is the Human Resource Mangement? What is scope of this field for studies?
Question:
Answer:
Human Resource Management (HRM) has to do with managing anything that is between a manager (employer) and employees. It typically subdivides into areas such as compensation, HR information systems (HRIS), employee relations (i.e. sexual harassment), policies (policy on hiring, firing, disability, diversity, etc.), recruitment and retention (interviewing, how to collect resumes, screen them, how to retain employees etc.).
With knowledge in HRM, you can become a compensation analyst, HR consultant, general HR manager, recruiter, HR business analyst, HR systems administrator, etc.
My school, San Francisco State, had a strong HR curriculum. Being in the Silicon Valley, we also had a lot of exposure to HR professionals in the high tech and pharmaceutical fields, who would come to evaluate our projects. The material and courses were intensive on business cases and learning how to quantify the value of HR in an organization, which you will encounter with many support-type of departments. I learned a lot, but I think with any field, it depends on the teachers to make your studies effective.
