I'm quiting my job. How much notice should I give? (READ DETAILS)?
Question:
I know the norm is two weeks notice BUT can it be different in this type of situation? Like maybe one week?
Answer:
i'd go with the two weeks notice, but add this in writing:
"if my job description changes appreciably during the said 2 weeks, or if harassment occurs that is against the spirit of the employee guidebook (or whatever counterpart you have), i reserve the right to terminate my employment immediately".
c.y.a.
I honestly say two weeks, they can give you bad references if you don't.
Depends on whether you plan to use them as a reference contact on your resume`. Standard 2 weeks if so. If not, and all you wish to do is brush the dust off from that job, drop it in one week or effective immediately. It's a pleasure to see the jaws drop on that one.
Forget those jerks you work for.
Quit when you're good and ready.
There's no need to be kind to people who've treated you poorly.
It depends on your job and if you think you'll need a recommendation from them in the future. Try not to make people who may be of help to you in the future mad. On the other hand if everyone is already p*ssed off and you know they'll give a bad recommendation then give them one weeks notice.
If your going to need them at all in the furtre i'd give tham two weeks (well maybe a week in a half) Good Luck
Do you really care? Just walk out one day. Sure, 2 weeks is standard, but if they're harassing you, that makes this a non-standard quit. When they start messing with you, tell them thanks, (because they gave you a reason to leave) and walk out. Who care's about their hurt feelings. They don't care about yours.
I just had that similar experience. I gave two weeks. But they were so awesome as to not even put me on the schedule those weeks anyway.. you might get lucky like that. If not, at least they can't tell your other employers you bailed out. Plus you can call h.r. again and complain that it has not stopped..
That you have made a Claim to the Human Resource department, you should give Two week notice, so you can get unemployment benefits, if you qualify for unemployment benefits, unless, the company may reject your unemployment claim, again, if you are eligible for payment since you are quitting. The laws differ for someone quitting and someone resigning.
sounds like a really bad situation but a good rule of thumb is not to leave a job until you have another one lined up. But given your situation, i'd still give 2 wks notice. Your next employer might ask and might not like your answer if you say you walked out. You wouldn't want that to be the deal-breaker between you and another candidate. Need to look ahead.
Listen darlin!! TWO WEEKS NOTICE!! Even though they treat you like s*** - this still makes you coming out the victor. Try using this two week time frame to get another job. Trust me, I've been there before. it would help you a little bit better if you documented and tape recorded everything that happened to you as it happened. If you have something that's worth looking into - seek an attorney for a suit - unfairness in workforce development. Be discreet though - they can fire your hiney for breach of confidentiality. Be careful - good luck and hang in there!!
If you are in a "right to work" state they can let you go with out any reason or notice and you, too can leave without any reason or notice. So, your next consideration is--do I need their reference? Well, there are laws about that too. They are not supposed to say why you have been let go or why you left, merely that you worked there, what your positon was, and the approximation of your pay. Find someone you like/can trust to give you written letter of reference and or someone you can list to have called. Past employment is generally only for record of experience and salary. In many cases you can ask that former, esp. immediate, former employers not be contacted--esp. in the case of your still being employed by said company. So don't sweat it.
I would go with Tater Salad's advice. ...Having said that, you might consider the fact that these "morons" are never gonna give you a decent recommendation no matter what. Besides, would you really trust them enough to ever use them as a reference? ...So my recommendation is, forget them; scratch them off completely from your resume (it's a part-time retail job anyway) and get out and move on while you are emotionally ahead.
Don't give your notice. If they have cut your hours because you complained then they will cut your hours when you put your notice in. I would just look for another job, and when you get one just quit.
Just stop going in. Or better yet, let me come in there and buy stuff first! I'll get a laptop, a flat screen monitor, a projector, and all kids of extra parts, and you can ring up candy bars instead!
One week is ok Lara, but try to be professional about it.
A woman friend had similar situation..had all problems documented and sued! Won a very nice award (good amount of money) You most likely won't be listing this on your resume so I say walk and when they call tell them you QUIT
