What is meant by Human Resources?

We get all that stuff about HR management, Importance of HR, HR & development of Companies, HR in 21st Century etc, etc. But there is no website or person who can simply tell me the exact or nearby DEFINITION OF HUMAN RESOURCES. I also want to know the fields or subjects related to it.

Human means mankind, resource means skills
thus skill ful mankind is human resource.
