MY pc cannot detect my digital camera.?

Question:
MY pc cannot detect my digital camera. It's supposed to be a plug and play device which uses a USB port. All my PC's USB ports are running ok, and I've tested my camera and station from the store. Have installed the software as well, still my PC cannot detect the camera. My PC specs: Windows XP, my camera: Canon Ixus i7.I need all the gelp I can get. Thanks so much! Appreaciate all the iputs.

Answer:
Get a USB card reader, they can be found for around $10.00 and not only does it make transferring photos easy but it saves wear and tear on your camera.
You might want to recheck your USB ports.
you don't have the camera in the review mode.

if this doesn't work - email me
Plug the camera into the computer and turn it on. (doesn't matter if it is in camera or play mode)
Look for the little button that looks like a sheet of paper with jagged lines comming out of either side (usually the little picture is in blue ink).
Press that guy and it should work.
The button is supposed to be for using a printer with the camera (I think) but I've noticed that when I got to test some canon cameras with a computer they occasionally don't work. When I push this little button it usually works right away, and then works every time as soon as I plug the usb cable into the camera.
Not sure why they need this button... it should just notice the usb cable and start communicating... silly.
