I am going to school full time at night to obtain my bachelor's degree and work full time as an admin. asst. I would like to move ahead to a project manager position and do not know where to start to get there. It seems that admins are pigeon holed into their jobs and management does not want to advance them - who else would wipe their ***?

As stated above, yes! Get a job with another company as a project coordinator or first level project leader. You will need to change companies to get over being known as an administrator and become a project leader. It's a fact of life! Take care, have fun, and good luck!
You need some serious training for project management! If I had a penny for every idiot who thought they could manage projects.. well I've have at least a quarter!
Most project managers try to play by the book, and the book is idiotic or extremely complex! if You think general managers are bad, wait until you meet project managers who think they know everything!
Stick to projects that you could have done yourself, or at least with a team! You will be a hero in your company!
