How is a project baseline used to guide the execution of the project's work?
Question:
In project management
Answer:
A project basline is basically a version of the project plan saved just after the project planning is complete and before project execution begins. It's the plan on day one of execution.
It can contain schedule, cost, and work (level of effort) information.
By comparing the current forecast to the baseline you can compare where you actually are, to where you said you would be.
You can also use the baseline to get into something called earned value, which is a more advanced way to compare cost and time performance against the baseline.
