If i wanted to buy a camera connecter for the ipod, would i be able to rip it from the ipod to the pc later?

Question: its because i have a fairly small sd card and im going florida and want to take as many pictures as possible, so was thinking if i could back up the photos onto the ipod ( i have a 5.5G and a compatible camera) and then later into the pc maybe with a third party software that you have personally used and tested
