I have the phone number of a person from human resources at Unilever foods...?
Question:
Answer:
The appropriate thing to do would be to have your friend call her and say "I have a friend who is interested in working here; do you mind if I give her your number so that she can call you to discuss whether there may be any suitable vacancies at present?"
The HR person will most probably say that it's fine, as most companies value referrals from their employees. Also if you're young or are changing careers, most people are usually happy to have a quick chat to provide career advice.
However, if she says no, get your friend to ask if you can email your CV to her. No-one would say no to that. Then, once you have done that, I would probably follow up with a phone call (if she doesn't call you) just to see what she thought in, say, a month or so.
You won't come across as unproffesional - you will come across as someone who is confident and has done their research - which is what most companies look for!
What makes you think it is a private number? If you're so concerned, then use the company number.
If the contact you have had a good work record, why wouldn't you use their name if asked?
It's called "being" resourceful if you contacted me that way I would grant you an interview! If we had a position that is.
