Has the position been filled?

Question:
I interviewed for a administrative position for a nonprofit organization. I went to several interviews the first one was with human resources, the second was with the person who would be my supervisor and the final one was with the director of the program. After my last interview (which went well) I was told I would get a call back last week and I never did. I called and left a message, but my message was never returned. Should I assume that the position was filled. What should I do? I really like this position and the people I have met.

Answer:
First, NEVER assume the position is filled. Nonprofits are the worst for not doing things in the timeframe they think they'll get them done. Send an email thanking them for their time (again if you've already done so). Express your interest (again, if you've done so) and if it is the 2nd time, ask if it has been filled. If you've sent the thanks letter, you might could even call the HR person and inquire. It could be weeks if we're talking about a nonprofit.
I would wait a few more days, contact the HR department and follow up. With my current position, I didn't hear back for 3 weeks... when I finally did get a call back, it was from our coporate HR to arrange my first day- no call from my future manager, no offer letter, nothing.

So, as previously mentioned, wait a few more days. People get busy, things come up.
you can't assume the job has been filled, sometimes the hiring process takes a while. but you shouldn't assume the you have the job either, you did the right thing by leaving a mssg, so someone should get back to you shortly. in the meantime continue with your search and interviews, it may be that there is another job that you might like just as much or even more, best of luck
