Should all project managers have aprofessional qualification in project management?
Question:
Answer:
I don't think it matters if they all do - it's a question of should you have one, or does the PM you're interested in hiring have one.
In either case, just because you have a qualification/certification, doesn't mean you're any good as a project manager, but it should mean you have a basic understanding of the tools and techniques involved, and you are familiar with project management terminology etc.
I have a vested interest. I've been managing IT projects of up to £1m Sterling for over 20 years without any formal qualifications. Some have been big winners a couple disasters.
Generrally, employers rate you according to your last project rather than qualifications once you get to my time of life.
However, if you are just starting out, then I suggest you get qualifications - they'll make you stand out from the crowd.
Just don't get sucked into believing that the Project Management process you got qualified in has all the answers. Experience and common sense tend to be more help when things start to go wrong.
Not necessarily.
