Question:
I work for a certain parcel service that tells all of it's employees that everyone needs to purchase work shoes. The definition they give for a workshoe is non-slip sole, leather upper, sturdy, and no holes or rips.(this is what is says in our contract). This definition defines more shoes than just a boot.So I wear tennis shoes to work, and I get harrased by management. If it said in the contract that everyone had to wear boots then I believe they would have to pay something to help all the employees financially, because it would fall under "uniform",because they are specifically saying that you have to wear one style of shoe.
Answer:
They can force you to wear anything that they want and do not have to provide it in any way shape or form. You can however deduct said item on your taxes. They could even specify what clothing you needed to wear without providing a way for you to get it.
Yes
i agree with you that they *should* have to help with this... unfortunately, they don't.
What nevyn said.
Your employer can make "Safety Shoes" mandatory. There are not required to pay any portion unless you are in a Union job and it is written in the contract that they pay.
Yes. employers have the right to force upon you to for the security of their company or for the employee. Regarding supplying of Boots, you can request them to provide, but it is not your right. Some companies give every year, some do not give. it all depends on the management.
Yes,it can be made obligatory.
