ok well i had logged off of my screen (i share with my mom) and i logged right back on and it said that yahoo messenger could not connect...so i got on my moms screen and it let me on but i also restarted the computer and shut it all the way down and turned it back on and it still wont work

It may be intermittent. It is possible that your user data is stored in a server that is different from your mom's.
So just try after sometime and see. Tommorrow, it might work!
