My laptop with win xp does not appear in workgroup list but I can access shared folders of others on list.?
Question:
Answer:
Does your laptop have XP Home or XP Professional?
XP Home has limited Network capabilities. It does not support active directory which is common in most business networks.
As for a fresh install, copy the cd onto one of the other computer's shared folders. Since you can access these folders, do a remote install from there. Or better et, if the computers have a shared CD drive, just install from there.
Hope this helps.
Your IP settings are correct and that is why you can share folders. The reason why you dont see the Laptop in the workgroup list is that the computer name and workgroup is apsent on the laptop.to change that or make one from scratch:Right Click MY COMPUTER and left click properties which is at the bottom after you right clicked.Select the COMPUTER NAME tag. There you will see a change icon, left click on it and fill in the computer name ( your name or ant name you prefer) and the workgroup you are connected to.Click ok.
Hope this helps.
