Computer running but monitor doesn't recognize computer?!?!?
Question:
i left winamp running over night. usually fall asleep to it. when i woke up in the morning my moniter had power showed the "self test" screen. my computer was still running though. lost video to the moniter. what would cause this. previouse computer would have no probs with this for over 2 years. i installed a new mobo/cpu and power supply and since then i had to reformat windows a couple times. got the BSOD. just recently reformatted it.
so techs whats it sound like to you? a crappy mobo? processor over heating? ram issues? hd issues?

Yeah its plugged in correctly. and no oter vid cards. it has onboard shared memory.

sounds like bios may be configured wrong or incompatibility of parts or possible overheating or a powersupply issue ... its really hard to say ...
You should configure you power settings so that the monitor does not shut off, and that the pc does not go into hybernate mode. A lot of computers have a hard time "waking up" after either of the events. You can configure it through control panel, or right click on your empty desktop, go to properies, and either the screen saver or power management tab.
men r u seroius?? you dont know that when the pc is not being operate it the monitor turn off after a while to protect itselft you can see that by right clic in the desktop, properties, screen saver almost at the bottom you'll see Power clic there and in the middle of the window u'll see Turn off monitor the default time is after 20 minutes you can change that if you want ok.. and NOOO YOU DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS.
When was the last BIOS update done? Have you gone to the manufacturer for the mobo driver updates? Don't depend on just the cd that may have come with it...issues pop up often and updates are posted on the vendors website normally. Did the mobo come with the cpu attached? If not, did you put Heat Sink glue on the cpu before attaching? If not, this could be the problem...cpu overheating possibly and in turn onboard video affected. Not sure why you've had to reformat so often but overheating can pose several problems particularly if the system is run almost constantly.
Of course.start with simplest first as the others have indicated...your "sleep" mode settings for the monitor, under Start/Control Panel/Power Options
