Do you have ideas for keeping Q&A a legit place to get/share info?
Question:
Serious, knowledgeable, well thought-out answers only ... report abuse to others?
I found Y Q&A while searching the web looking for health info for a sick puppy. I found some great people with a wealth of info, how do we keep it that way instead of allowing it to get taken over by bullies & people just looking for points?
It appears people often vote the 1st answer as best rather than reading @ least the first few answers, do you do this?
Should points go for quality or people w/ large % of bests?
I read that someone gives thumbs-down for long answers so it shrinks the space on their screen, does that make sense? Why not just use the scroll bar, unless they don't know how.
What are some good sites to refer bullies, unknowledgeables, nasty-minded people too? Maybe if they are encouraged to go elsewhere, we can keep Y Q&A legit
Answer:
If more people ignored or reported inappropriate and/or poor questions, the people posting these types of questions might slowly become discouraged and leave or start posing better questions.
Again, to keep the Q&A community a legit place to come for real answers and info, members need to report inappropriate answers as abuse (by clicking on the abuse flag). See guidelines: http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_...
Maybe thumbs down should cost the rater, but since that's not the case, if you see a good answer w/ a thumbsdown, counter that thumbsdown by giving the answerer a thumbs up if they truly gave a good, well thought out answer.
Thumbs down doesn't matter you lose nothing. Unfortunately you will find people that have a poor attitude every so often. I believe there are more people on here that really do want to help. It just takes a little time to get the people that are bullies off but, they are getting them off.
Bullies ruin it for everyone no matter what community you are on. They ruin yahoo messenger and myspace and chat rooms and now this site. People like that should be blocked and their internet provider should take away their service!
