Question:
First let me say that I know very little about computers. Yesterday before I turned it on it was making a strange sound like it was trying to turn on even though I had shut it down the night before. Anyway, it still turned on without problems yesterday despite this strange occurance. Well, today it would not turn on at all, but I noticed that it smelled hot as it was never turned off. So, I tried unplugging it and plugging it in again and what that did was make it sound like it was going to turn on but the light on the power button did not turn green, it stayed yellow, and the the screen stayed black as if in standby. Then the light turned off and now it seems dead. I ran a virus scan two days ago using Micro Live Care 1 and everything was reporting as fine. What could it be? Is there a simple answer someone can share with me or do I need to take it to be serviced? Can someone recommend a place in central Orange County, CA. It is a PC by the way.

Had the same problem solved:
was the wasted Power Supply, replace it or get someone fixed it.
U should also check motherboard, capacitors, etc. with someone.
Most likely it's your power supply.
sounds like your psu.
