The Dell Inspiron 1720 series consists of two models. The Inspiron 1720 is built around an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and (in the case of higher-end models) the new Centrino Duo platform, while the Inspiron 1721 trades Intel for an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor and chipset. Aside from processor choices, Dell is also offering color choices with the Inspiron 1720 series: if buyers don't like the traditional white or black case, they can opt for red, blue, green, yellow, brown, or pink. We've seen colorful laptops before--most recently in the Sony VAIO CR series--but we've never seen a colored laptop with as many configuration options as the Dell Inspiron 1720 series offers. While many of the upgrade options--such as integrated WWAN or a Blu-ray drive--will surely push the price well above the $899 baseline, we think the Inspiron 1720 series will nevertheless appeal to home users who want a solid all-around laptop with a high degree of customization.
All of the new inspirion lines are definitely improved over their predecessors. The computers are bulkier than most in their same size category but are quite sturdy, powerful, and produce little noise and heat. For colorful laptops, they're also one of the most customizable on the market as you can either get a pretty decent base build or beef it up considerably.
It has a nice default resolution of 1440x900 but can go to a massive 1920 x 1200. Unlike its smaller brothers, it has the option for dual harddrives for a total of 500GB, and if you want, you can even get a blu-ray drive. It may not be the fastest computer in the market, but it also won't empty your wallet like those that are.

Just click on the "+" at the top right corner of Flash animation with the Inspiron and you can get views from all angles.
If it's power and screen size you crave, then go for the 1720. You can also get the Inspiron 1520 if you want more portability but with the same great options for more power.
All in all though, I'm glad to see Dell move forward trying to improve their designs and hardware. Best of luck on deciding!
