Netgear Wireless ADSL Modem router/Network Problem?
Question: Hi,
I have 2 computers running through the 1 modem/router. I have never properly networked them together, I'm no expert in these sorts of things.
2 weeks ago, on my laptop, I hooked up a webcam to windows media encoder and had it streaming live video to my website. Then I set it up to run from my desktop. There are still occasions when I'd prefer to run it from my laptop, but now it won't broadcast to the web from my laptop when I set it up, even though I haven't changed any settings. All relevant firewall ports are open. One mistake I think I've made that might be causing it is that I have the same user name on both computers and sometimes I'm getting an error sign telling me that someone else is signed in under that name on the other computer.
It's driving me crazy and I'd really like some help!
Thanks

Answer:
The website must have code pointing to the ip address or name of your home network. In the router, there should be a spot to tell it to point to the right ip address on your home network. these ip addresses are dynamic so on any given day, your pc or your laptop might have the ip address that the other box had the previous day. depending on a few things. Basically, with a static service like this, without a lot of manual intervention (or an expensive piece of equipment), it makes more sense to keep the webcam on the same machine all the time.
