How to adequatly support matress on a homemade loft bed?
Question: I want to avoid using the Box springs because it would use up too much vertical space. Designing for a desk underneath the bed.

Our platform has plywood 4x8s that fit over the frame. My daughter's loft bed had a separate wood box with sides that the mattress fit into. You might want to try something like a mattress cushion like Ikea sells to make the bed softer without adding much height. I also think Ikea and other sellers have mattress with extra support for beds like yours.
