Should I start studying my CPA?
Question: I've completed my bachelor's degree in accounting. Currently working in the accounting field but haven't taken the plunge to begin my CPA studies. I've procrastinated for 4 years now. CPA will give me more recognition in the industry and guarantee more responsibility and higher pay in the workforce. Ive been afraid to take on the 3 year commitment in the past because i dont have enough support around me ie. im single, none of my friends are studying, ive been house hunting (but have had no luck), and i can just imagine lonely nights sitting behind my desk...I guess im also wondering whether i really want to be an accountant. I would love to just have kids and raise a family but can't find a decent guy. Hence, the reason why ive resorted to a career. Would you start your CPA if you were me?
Answer:
Stop procrastinating.
If you just started 4 years ago when you were first thinking of it, you would have been finished by now. If you get the CPA, you can still be a Mum. You also have to plan for what happens after the kid(s) have grwon up and left home.
Just get in and do it. You never know the decent guy you're looking for just may be a fellow student.
Yes 3 years will be over before you know it. Now while your single is the time to do it.
Forgive me, I'm not trying to be rude, but you answered your question--professionally, you will get more recognition and you will get the responsibility and pay. I don't know if it will take you three years to pass the exam. But, it will take a considerable amount of time to study, take and pass the exam.
I can see that you're concerned with losing your personal life to a profound career. You must ask yourself this question, though. "Will I be happier in the long run?"
Good Luck.
