Play videos from external drive on TV in living room?
Question: So i have a TON of tv shows, music videos, and other stuff on my external drive...I was wondering if there was anything out there i would be able to use to stream it or use my linksys wireless network to send them to my tv in my living room? carrying my having to put the files back on my laptop and carrying my laptop to the living room and connecting it to the big screen tv isn't cutting it anymore...thanks for the help, hope there are more people besides me wondering about this too

hook your ext. drive to any computer on your network that has windows media center (or windows vista when it comes out at the end of the month) and then buy a media extender (such as the dlink media lounge) heck some of the media extenders might not even need those versions of windows, i cant remember right now... anyways.. then all your media will be streamable to the extender.. as long as the computer thats streaming it is on.. also there is a router that you can hook the ext. drive up to directly and so that might work without having to have a computer on all the time.. finally there is the Mirra personal server from seagate, which iknow you dont need to have a computer on for that.. it hooks up directly to the network.. (it is an ext. drive btw) there are other ways as well but these are the most common.. also if you are going to stream wirelessly then make sure you have a wireless G MIMO router the N routers are still in the baby phases and are not certified yet so i dont suggest them as of now.
