BT Home Hub downstream speed?

Question: I upgraded to the "up to 8MB bt home hub option. Did a speed check before hand using my postcode (as they give you two options and don't say anything about one being different from the other). Have run various speed tests and can't get any better than approx 2.700Kbps, yet when I look at downstream speed in home hub it says 6.752Kbps. I afterwards did a speed check using my phone number and found line would only support around 2MB. Have been through online "HELP" desk, (believe it's just there to make more revenue for bt by getting you to phone premium rate numbers), Then ended up phoning someone at bt who said was a problem with the line. Sent engineer who said couldn't find fault. Cannot understand why they give two options, phone number or postcode to do speed check, if answers aren't going to be the same, and also why hub should say I'm getting much higher rates than I am. Appreciate any help as cannot get any straight answers from bt..

Answer:
If you go to www.samknows.com and enter your details you should be able to get an indication of your line speed.

You say the downstream indicated 6752kbps but can you give details. For example mine are as follows;-

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 5.8 db 23.0 db
