What do I look for when buying a desk top computer?

Question: I require one that will support graphics and photo editing. Being a music fan the machine should be able to write DVDs and enabling downloading music files etc.The machine should be upgradable at least up to some point in time

Answer:
go with dell or HP prices are a little cheaper at HP get more stuff on the PC. But by all means you are definitely a Media person so Aim for larger Hard drives and Pentium M. it is made for media experience
and when buy comp. make sure you customize it take out everything you don't need (prices will change dramatically) and only put in what your going to use. (ie. DVD burner x read and write speed you need to get the job done) if you can try to get your hands on a program called Alcohol 120% you will be amaze at it functions.
Do you want to assemble your own PC? If not, check out http://www.dell.com
I would look into buying a powerbook or an iBook or any other product from Apple.
1. Price Range
2. CPU Speed
3. Harddrive Space
4. Memory
5. Support
well, i would suggest getting a machine with a processor speed of at least 3.0 GHz. Rendering dvds is very cpu intensive. you will probably want to have 2 gigs of RAM.

I would suggest buying a Dell, because you can get them with good 3d video cards, and they come with good sound cards. they usually also come with reasonably priced accessories.

for the price you pay, they are loaded with features and decent hardware (not generic junk most companies use) plus their financing is pretty good if you are on a budget. dell has so many models with so many options, its basically Custom To Order. so its like building one without building one.
try www.komplett.ie or the one for your country for a ood guide

hard disk 250GB
memory 1GB
level 2 cache 1MB
level 1 cache 16kb

CPU 3GHZ Pentium 4 or for shear great value AMD 64 3000+ with abit sli ready motherboard
I would recommend any Pentium 4 class CPU, at least 512MB ram, but be on the safe side and make it 1GB Ram since it's not too expensive. Most of the more detailed choices will depend on your budget, because I can recommend some good components but am not sure what your budget is. If you are not going to be doing and gaming then you can go for any current graphics card (choose PCI-Express type card, not AGP), they're all very powerful for non-gaming graphics. Sound Card will probably come standard on the motherboard. Also look for enough PCI slots and Ram slots on the motherboard to be able to upgrade, and do not get a "discreet" motherboard with graphics card built in - that will be cheaper but limit your options for upgrade. Looking for a DVD drive, again any good current one will do, just make sure it can write + and - DVDs. I suggest you go to someone that can build a custom PC like this and not buy a named brand as that will cost a fortune and not give you so much flexibility.
something that works
and runs real good
lick my ***
Graphics and photo editing take a lot of cpu so id go for atleast 1 gig ram. For the music and dvds id go for 200 gig hard drive. get a half decent videocard. get and AMD processor
