Deciding between 2 job fields?
Question: I am a 40 year old woman just getting back into the work force after raising my children. I have been researching jobs. I have narrowed it down to: medical coding and billing or computer support specialist/help desk tech. I have an associates degree in graphic design but jobs are hard to come by with that so looking for something that makes decent money but also is in HIGH DEMAND! And something that will take 2 years or less of schooling. Please advise! Thank u!
I would say that the Medical Field would be more stable and secure
computer support why not for some school district that has job openings for tech support
i'm a graphic artist and i just got through making a similar decision. I love what i do but those jobs are rare, i have just started school to do marketing and those two professions go hand in hand.( : think aboout it, you still get to use your skills.
The computer industry is requiring longer and longer hours to keep up with stupid computer users and hardware that breaks for no reason. I would recommend the other track, but thats just me. Do what you feel is best for you.
I worked for an IT Consulting firm for close to two years. Help Desk was definitely one of the worst positions of the company and the least recognized or appreciated. It also doesn't pay very much. I would definitely consider the medical field where there is a high demand for personnel. I believe you can get a certification as a medical coder in as little as 6 months.
Jobs in the medical field will always be in demand and hospitals have great benefits!
My cousin works in medical billing, and she has been with the same company for over three years but can't find another job elsewhere just fyi. The medical billing schools will say that they are in such high demand but that is not necessarily so. And with medical coding, to get a job, one most likely would at least need their certification.
