I want to calculate future bandwidth requirement for my organisation how do go about it ?

Question: i need to calculate future bandwidth requirement for my network . total number of users is 300 . Presently i am not using any VOIP or streaming applications . But in future there will be VOIP and media streaming application which will run on this LAN . How much bandwidth will be sufficent so that I dont have to upgrade my LAN again atleast for 10 years

Answer:
Because of the nature of computers/electronics it's impossible to upgrade right now to a level that is guaranteed to sufficient in 10 years.
My suggestion is to upgrade as much as current technology and budget will allow. For instance, you may want to upgrade your network infrastructure to a 1 Gigabit lan (change all your routers,hubs,switches,firewall... etc) and upgrade the workstations slowly as needed (or all at once if it's in the budget) and get as fast a connection as you can afford. You can likely get a connection type that will allow for enough bandwidth in 10 years without upgrading, but those connections cost a few mill a month.
an OC48 for instance is typically $150, 000 per month, but chances are you don't need that kind of speed NOW, and in 10 years, OC48 might be what we are using in our homes for $50/month, and OC192 will be cheaper than OC48 is now.I suggest you do your upgrading slowly over the next 10 years. If you try to do now what will still be good in 10 years, you will bankrupt your company.
And rather than "calculating" your "future" bandwidth needs, which is impossible because we don't know what other Internet toys will be developed in the future, simply upgrade when it becomes necessary given your current usage.
That's the best answer you are likely to get unless another user here has a time machine or crystal ball that really works!
