Starving Horses??
Question: A week or so ago a question was posted in regards to some not so healthy horses out in Burns Oregon. Myself and another person took it to heart and tried contacting the authorities, media and the BLM out there to show our support for getting the horses some help before they got worse. Has anyone else followed up or heard anymore in regard to those horses? The only response I got back was from the BLM stating that they were not BLM horses and to contact the sheriff. The authorities never replied to either of us and from what we had learned is that this is an ongoing situation but the authorities just "let it die" once it hits there desk. Anyone with more info?? Anyone else make a stand on this?
Answer:
Forgive them, hhqh01, they haven't been listening...
We DID contact the media, the police, the sheriff.
The sheriff HAS been out there, and knows there is a problem.
We can't do much more than pester, as hhqh01 and I are both remote from the horse.
We were hoping for others, and coorscowgirl101, to follow up. For all we know the horses have been moved (or died). What is going on at that end? Surely someone reading this is in the area??
Coorscowgirl101 posted phone #,s and hhqh01 posted more contact info...anyone else call or contact the authorities there?
To Untamed - I don't think billions of horses are in this situation, but never think your young voice is not heard! Many people respect youth that speak up for what they believe in. Get your folk's permission, but you can make the calls and write letters, too! If you want to know how, write hhqh01 or me, and we will get you on board!
To anon - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM)is the agency here in the USA that oversees the use of public lands, as well as other things. Management of wild horse herds (mustangs) falls under their jurisdiction. This was not really their problem, but sometimes you can find a sympathetic ear in the government, and work your way over to the real responsible party.
1. Have you tried contacting the Humane Society?
2. I would also try to get the local media involved.
3. Is the name of the horse owner known to you? If yes, contact him.
4. Keep at it please, there must be a way of allerting and motivating the authorities to check out the situation and do something positive about it.
5. What the heck is wrong with that Sheriff's department?

I AM BEHIND YOU 100%.
Horses should not be neglected with this kind of abuse and they need to eat a lot to be healthy.
1. I'd call SPCA - ask for an investigator to look into this case. Have them make up a sheet to warn the owner not to starve their horses. If they don't make a difference in weight or body condition, they can charge the owners with animal crulity. Its a lot better that the owner know they are doing something wrong.
2. Yes call the media as they are always looking for stories that will help the community. Call the State newspaper and ask them to come and interview you and take pictures of the poor horses. I am sure the owners read the local newspaper and they should get the hint - Hey your horses are Starving Dude! Change your Actions. Also call the local Agricultural papers.
3. Call the police - am sure that they should look into this - HEY SHERIFF - You're a lazy bum! Smarten up!! He should come and take a look at the problem and try to find out what is wrong with the scene. He should call the SPCA for help removing the horses.
i dont know what BLM is but judging by your comment, you are in usa well if they were in uk you would call the RSPCA i have seen someone else here call it humaine society and SPCA please call whatever animal care authority you have as it is their area of responsability to oversee that the animals are looked after by the owners etc.
This should be your first move!
Billions of horses die a month, I want to help them sooooooooooooo badly, but I'm too young, I'm only 11. You don't know how much I want to help : (
Those horses need our help!! contact the sherrif as BLM said, and maybe something will be done!
